When is Skin Balance a good fit?

Thin, fragile skin that reddens easily

Flushes when the weather changes, after spicy food or when you switch products.

Skin after treatments or procedures

A stage when it needs soothing and stabilising again.

Stinging when using skincare

Many products that used to be fine now cause discomfort.

Need to stabilise your skin before intensive sessions

With a weak skin barrier, intensive treatments struggle to work well.

What happens in a session?

  1. Skin analysis and consultation

Your therapist analyses your skin and asks about the products you're using and when your skin tends to get red or sting. Depending on how severe it is, your skin may need to rest with a minimal home routine first.

  2. Gentle cleansing

Make-up removal and cleansing with gentle movements, keeping friction to a minimum on thin, fragile skin.

  3. Soothing the skin

Calms redness, itching or tightness so your skin is more comfortable before the recovery step.

  4. Repairing the skin barrier

Hydrates and replenishes nutrients, focusing on strengthening the skin barrier so your skin copes better with environmental stressors.

  5. Mask and repairing moisturiser

The mask leaves your skin softer and less rough. Your therapist then applies a repairing moisturiser for sensitive skin.

  6. Home care advice

Your therapist explains a minimal home routine. Don't go back to active treatment products on your own until you've been advised to; when you do, reintroduce them gradually, one product at a time.

Aftercare

Tonight: rinse your face with clean filtered water. Apply an antiseptic solution to your skin, leave it for 1 minute, then wipe it off with saline solution. Apply a repairing moisturiser for sensitive skin. If you have any inflamed spots, dab antiseptic solution onto them and leave it on overnight.

From tomorrow: keep your skincare routine to the bare minimum. Apply sunscreen, avoiding any inflamed spots (if you have them); if your skin is very irritated, you can skip this step for now. If you have inflamed spots with a white head, you can put pimple patches on them during the day. After cleansing, you can wipe your face with saline solution, a gentle toner or a facial mist. Focus on recovery and keep a close eye on your skin. Don't use active treatment products on your own until you've been advised to.

Frequently asked questions

My skin is irritated — should I come in for a session straight away?

Come in so we can see your skin in person first. Depending on how severe it is, your skin may need a rest, with just a minimal home routine for a while.

How long does recovery take?

There's no single answer — it depends on the cause, how damaged the skin is and how you care for it at home.

I have acne — should I repair my skin first or deal with the acne first?

When the skin barrier is weak, it's usually best to stabilise your skin first before considering intensive treatments.

Can I go back to active treatments after recovery?

Yes, but reintroduce them gradually, one product at a time. If it's a prescription medication, follow the advice of the doctor who prescribed it.
